SPLASH PAGE
"Enterrr"? How about "enter", and some you know, site requirements? All you have here is a comic strip of a cartoon guy who's shaped like a cock, and a statement saying "you've been doing some 'big stuff' to the site". Seriously, the character in the comic looks like an uncircumsized dick, it's stupid. The comic strip itself is not even humourous, it's just plain dumb! One day when you realise Piczo sucks and you want to improve yourself, you'll realise that personal sites have a certain standard. Splash pages are acceptable only if they have a purpose - stating site requirements and such.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I'm stumped. I really do not know what to say. I've never seen a site looking like this before...not even on Piczo. There's not even a trace of organisation here. Text and images are flung every which way, making readability a nightmare. Shocking.
LAYOUT
There's text everywhere. You need to organise your text into well, an iframe I guess, since you're on Piczo. You can't just fling text all over the place because it looks messy and disorganised. You say "Note; this webiste was made on Inernet Explorer and on 1024x768 resolution, and if you have different settings then it might look weird. Thanks!" Well, I opened your site up on IE6 a few days ago and it looks just the same as it does on Safari, apart from the fact that IE shows hideous horizontal scrollbars leading to nowhere. Other than that, there is no difference as to how your site looks. You don't even have a layout. Unless you call a low-quality web cam image of yourself a layout, which I don't. It is hard coming away from reviewing sites in which the webmasters at least partially understand what they're doing - this shows in their layout and coding mainly - to reviewing a Piczo site. I believe that one should not even bother having a website unless they understand that presentation is important - easy to read text, organisation...you are clearly yet to acquire such key facets. I'm not sure that I should take you seriously in this review since you have a site that looks like this...getting reviewed is not a game, especially at Petshopgirl's Reviews. Any, any WPR would not give you a high score / excessive positive criticism at this stage because really, you're not at a reviewing stage. But you applied for a review obviously thinking your site was up to standard, so what can I say? Welcome to a Piczo review - PSGR style.
CONTENT
Hey There Delilah:
You've named your "Me" section Hey There Delilah? Oooookaaay?! Oh yeah, since you're on Piczo you've got the whole "different layout on every page" thing going on. Your 'layout' for this page is a blurry graphic of a 50's style woman with the words: "Gold digger: Like a hooker but smarter". Like I said, web standards. "Basics" - I'm impressed at how profound you've come across as. No really...you express yourself well. Pretty much the whole page is consisting of a rant about teenagers with identity problems and trying to conform to certain labels...sounds very fucked up. Teenagers certainly weren't like that in my day. I enjoyed reading your opinions, great work. You say "Why do I use Piczo, you may ask? Well, because I have absolutely no idea how to use coding or get hosted, that's why. I find using Piczo a huge pain, but it's better than nothing at the moment." Well, get off Piczo then! It's not hard, and Brenda will help you. Getting off Piczo would be a dream for you, a dream that is certainly possible. Go for it. Especially since you're fifteen, I know some fifteen year olds with their own domains, with the slickest, most clean cut coding you'll ever see. "&More" gives lists of your likes and dislikes. I noticed under "Dislikes" that you put "rnb, rap, and hip hop", but under "Favourite Music" you put Usher...he is rnb, so how does that work? "Snapshots" - no one could say that you don't have any pictures thats for sure...you have tonnes. "Stuff By Me" - your poems were exceptional. Really, oh my god. They were very well done, very descriptive, and enjoyable to read. The poems are followed by some doodles drawn by you and a friend. How come both images are linked to your splash page? "Friends List" some link back buttons plus a list of your net friends - all of which have Piczo sites themselves. Oh dear! "My Loves" - friend dedication pages by the looks of it. Are you aware that the only page that has been filled in is Brenda's? Perhaps you should put up an "Under Construction" notice. One thing I've noticed is that on many of your pages your graphics are linked to your splash...why is this? Rather strange. "Missing You" - obituaries for your Great Uncle and your step-dad, written by you. You have done a fantastic job of writing these obituaries, it must have been really hard for you. I know it's hard for me writing about loved ones who have passed away.
Stuff:
Again, your layout on this page links back to your site entrance. There is no need to link the layouts, especially when you have a "back" button right there. The first link, "Layouts", is not clickable. "Icons" - the first link on this page isn't clickable either. You have about seven pages of icons here, each page containing at least fifty icons/avatars. These are all of a varying quality...did you make them yourself or nick them from somewhere? If you did make these icons yourself, how come you haven't shown off your apparent design skills elsewhere? What with the fact that you have a blurry webcam pic serving as a layout and all. Can't help but being suspicious. "At The Moment" - ooh, goody! An entire page detailing what you were up to at 7.42PM on May 30th, 2006! These pages are beyond lame, get rid of it and earn credibility as a result! "Azuzephre" - strange comics by "Jeff Thomas". You tell visitors to credit Jeff Thomas if they take them, and you've mentioned his name, sure, but where's the link? "Please Read These" - whilst this page largely consisted of forward type material, I couldn't help but enjoy reading "The Truth About Girls". Haha, I loved "We absolutely DO NOT care about monster trucks, car systems, paintball, or anything else you and your friends talk about...in other words shut the fuck up." HAHAHA, too right! Too fucking right. Let's all go paintballing, because that's just soooo cool. I've even heard of girls doing it. Let's all run around like headless chickens and get pelted with paint, cool maaaan. I'd rather read a bloody dictionary. Oh yeah, I did once...but that's another story. "Cool Poetry" - getting a bit X-rated aren't we Lincoln? I can't exactly complain though, after all the things I've done over the years. "Archives" - there is only one link on this page and it doesn't work. This isn't the first time either, so be sure to go about fixing all of the link problems I've mentioned to you.
Messages:
A guestbook, essentially, containing "Nyce sytee visit myne, http://www.piczo.com/xxx-xxx-luff-u-long-time-xxx-xxx type messages. Great.
Rate Me:
Another guestbook, this time giving visitors the chance to rate you out of ten. Your site contains what, two guestbooks and a good few tagboards here and there, my goodness.
SUMMARY
PSGR must surely be the only WPR that touches Piczo sites. All review sites have their own set of standards, but for me personally I choose to leave that up to the webmaster. If they think their site is at a reviewing stage, they can submit and I'll review them, if only to let them know that they are in fact not at a reviewing stage. Many, many people dislike Piczo sites because they're so messy and the site owners do not have any grasp of web standards whatsoever, all that matters is "omgzz1 rate muh siteee", "i heart ure siteee, pliss visit muh siteee". Ask your friend Brenda and she'll tell you the same. I sincerely hope that one day you get off Piczo and work to improve your standards - when this happens, feel free to come back and be taken seriously, as by then you will deserve such treatment. It's the presentation that I think you have more of a problem with. Your content wasn't all that bad, unlike some people you've actually included your own opinions from time to time, and that was good to see. Also, your poetry was of a very pleasing standard - you've got a talent there. I hope you'll continue with web design, the way I see it, the only way is up, even for Piczo users! Good luck.
